CHALLENGES WE SOLVE

Traffic Is Falling and Nobody Can Tell You Why

A decline has a cause, and it is usually one of about six. The expensive mistake is reacting to the wrong one, which is what happens when the first response is to publish more content.

What Usually Causes It

An Algorithm Update

Something changed on Google’s side and your content no longer fits what it rewards. Datable against known update windows within an hour.

A Technical Regression

A deployment added a noindex, broke a template or slowed rendering. Traffic falls off a cliff rather than sloping, which is the tell.

AI Overviews Absorbing Clicks

Rankings unchanged, clicks down. Increasingly common on informational queries and it needs a different response entirely.

Losing Ground to Competitors

Nothing happened to you; someone else got better. Visible in ranking history rather than in your analytics.

Seasonality Mistaken for Decline

Real, boring, and the cause more often than anyone expects. Year-on-year comparison settles it in minutes.

Tracking, Not Traffic

Consent changes, a broken tag or a filter. The traffic never left; the measurement did.

OUR APPROACH

How We Find the Cause

Diagnosis before treatment. Publishing more content is the standard response and it is the wrong one for four of the six causes above.

01

Date the drop precisely

When it started, how sharply, and which pages and query types carry it. The shape of the curve narrows the cause immediately.

02

Rule out measurement

Before assuming lost traffic, we confirm it is actually lost rather than unrecorded.

03

Segment it

Brand against non-brand, page type against page type, device against device. Declines are rarely uniform and the exceptions point at the cause.

04

Recommend proportionately

What to fix, what to wait out, and what was never a problem.

Questions About Traffic Decline

Can traffic be recovered after an update?

Sometimes, and not always to the same level. Anyone promising full recovery before looking at your data is guessing. We would rather tell you the realistic ceiling.

How long does the diagnosis take?

Usually a few days. Dating the drop and segmenting it is fast; deciding what is worth doing about it is the part that needs thought.

Should we stop publishing while we work it out?

Rarely. But publishing more of whatever stopped working is not a recovery plan, and that is the usual instinct.

Is this the same as an AI search problem?

It can be. If rankings held and clicks fell, AI Overviews are a likely factor, and the response is about earning the citation rather than the click.
